What it does
Melanotan II is a synthetic cyclic analog of α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH) and a non-selective agonist at all five melanocortin receptors (MC1R–MC5R). It is the most studied research peptide for inducing eumelanin-driven skin pigmentation with minimal UV exposure, and is also examined for its appetite-suppressive and pro-libido effects mediated through central melanocortin signalling.
How it works in the body
It tells the pigment cells in your skin to start producing the natural tan-coloured pigment (melanin) before sun exposure — so you tan faster and need way less UV to do it. The same signal also reaches parts of the brain that quietly dial down appetite and dial up libido as a side benefit.

- Reconstitution
- Reconstitute with 1 mL bacteriostatic water → 5 mg/mL (50 mcg per pen unit).
- Dose
- Loading: start at 0.25 mg and titrate up to 0.5–1 mg as tolerated. Maintenance: 1 mg, 2× per week.
- Pen units (U-100)
- 0.25 mg = 5 units, 0.5 mg = 10 units, 1 mg = 20 units on a U-100 peptide pen.
- Frequency
- Daily during the loading phase (≈1–2 weeks), then twice weekly for maintenance.
